This week’s questions are stolen from Journal Buddies.

1. When do you feel the world will stop?

That’s a big question with an answer bigger than me. What I do know is that the world will stop for me when I die!

2. What is your personal motto?

My personal motto has multiple applications, appropriate for any scenario!

“Just fucking do it.”

  • When you’re facing something hard, just fucking do it. Do it and get it over with.
  • Instead of procrastinating, just fucking do it. Life is short, so don’t miss an opportunity.
  • When you don’t feel like doing some mundane task, just fucking do it. Self-explanatory!

3. What is the greatest gift you ever received?

I have a lot of favorites in the material realm. But I’d say the bigger gifts are the people around me.

4. Who is a leader who inspires you?

Ruth Bader Ginsberg. For so many reasons, but not the least of which is her advocacy for women’s rights and gender equality.

The fact that Amy Coney Barrett was put into her now-vacant seat is something that I find reprehensible.

5. What irrationally annoys you more than anything else?

It’s a hotly contested tie between close-minded, bigoted people and the “Q” crew, the tinfoil hat brigade. The misinformation, the “truthers,” all of the conspiracy garbage that amounts to little more than dangerous rhetoricm fear-mongering, and often domestic terrorism.

6. What small thing can always bring you a bit of joy?

Reading a good book!

7. What is your favorite thing to do on a lazy day?

Take a long hot bath with a cup of coffee and a book, and then curl up to read.

8. How often do you take risks?

I’m too old and broken these days to take as many physical risks. I was an adrenalin junkie back in a day. Now I’m more about new opportunities/risks.

9. Write about your happiest memory.

There are the usuals, like getting married, having kids. But aside from those, I think it’s the day my brother called me to tell me his first daughter was born. My brother has gone through some things, we both have, but he worked his ass off to get his life together. And he always wanted to be a father. To see him come out the other side and be so happy made my heart swell. It was a beautiful moment for me!

10. How long do you think it will be before we see a female president?

Sadly, longer than it should be. But at this point, I’m just happy to not have a racist homophobic, all-kinds-of-phobic human in the White House. The lack of crazy hate tweets these days is such a relief.

What I can’t understand is the number of women who believe that there should never be a female president, that women aren’t suited to the role. There are a number of female leaders in the world, not all in head-of-state positions, who have proven that to be categorically untrue. Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Jacinda Ardern, Angela Merkel, Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, Kamala Harris… to name a few.

11. Do you think it’s important to be part of a community?  Why? Why not?

I do, but sometimes I think there are communities have become too insular. Then the concept of community becomes smaller, even segregated, from the greater whole. I think community in the bigger sense is what we need more of, bridging the gaps, the differences.

12. What piece of modern technology are you most grateful to have.

My laptop. It provides my means for work, entertainment, connection to others.

13. Do you feel anonymous on line?

No. But then again, I’ve never tried to be anonymous.

14. What is something you’ve always wanted to try but have never gotten around to.

  • Learn to knit.
  • Go in a shark cage.
  • Learn to make leis.
  • Visit Ireland.
  • Learn to surf.

15. What would life be like without the internet?

I would say I can’t imagine it. But I’m old enough that I do remember. The wealth of information at my fingertips is a gift!

  1. I love the Internet and my computer – but I remember how things were without it. People spoke instead of looking down at their cellphone. The crazy wasn’t up front and center. It seems to bring out the worst in people.
