1. What do you have mixed feelings about?

The book world, at least from the author side of it. It can be so cliquey that sometimes it feels very high school.

2. What blended drinks do you enjoy?

I love a good smoothie!

3. At social or professional gatherings (when it’s safe to have them), how easily do you mingle?

I’m fine in those situations. As the daughter and granddaughter of lawyers in a small town, I often had to attend those kinds of functions. But in the latter several years of Corey’s active duty Army career, that changed. We had to attend various events, and it became increasingly difficult to mingle. Not because of me, because of others. The Army vibe has changed a lot since I first enlisted back in the olden days. It’s become much more conservative in thought, belief, and look. And here I am, 10 years older than my husband, tattooed, pierced, and weird hair. Pink hair, purple hair, teal hair, a ‘hawk I only recently began growing out. Add in the fact that I, too, was formerly active duty, and somehow I became “less than.” I didn’t fit the cookie-cutter mold, and I wasn’t a “real” wife because I’d been a soldier. It was ridiculous.

4. When did something most recently stir you to tears?

The last two and a half weeks have been pretty cry-heavy. Kristine, my former foster sister whom I talked about in last week’s Friday 5 (question $5) here, has been on my mind all the time. It really destroyed me.

5. What did you most recently add to your collection of something?

I added to my true-crime collection with a stack of books I got for Christmas.

  1. I used to read a lot of true crime. It always made me feel so icky, but I have an idea for a YA novel about the death penalty, so I kind of feel like I have to return to the genre once in a while for research. *shudder*
