I just watched a 17-year-old kid get drafted to the Islanders, the #1 draft pick. It was heart-wrenchingly beautiful. He immediately kissed the Hockey Fights Cancer ribbon on his new jersey. He lost his mom to breast cancer in February of 2024, just a few months after his billet mother committed suicide via a train. That’s a lot for a kid so young.
Yes, I saw that on the news too. How touching was it that his thoughts and focus was on his Mom. I hadn’t heard about his billet mom’s death around the same time. That’s rough as well. I hope he has a great career in the NHL.
