Saturday 9: The Lady in Red (1986)

Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? See the video and watch it below!

1) Is red a color you often wear?

Rarely at best. I have a pair of red yoga pants, which are about the extent of my mainly-red wardrobe.

2) In this song, Chris De Burgh is thrilled to be dancing with the woman he loves. Do you recall what was playing the last time you stepped onto the dance floor?

It was at a military ball, and I’m pretty sure it was Take My Breath Away, of Top Gun fame, by Berlin.

3) Chris says he wrote this song about the first time he saw his future wife, who wore a red dress when she came to see his band perform. Tell us about a memorable concert going experience.

Several years ago, I took Man Children #2 and #3 to see Def Leppard at the Blaisdell Center. It was… A-MAY-ZING! Fantastic show!!

4) Chris’ father worked as a diplomat for the United Kingdom. Former US ambassador Robert D. Blackwill believes a diplomat should possess strong writing/speaking skills, meticulous attention to detail, historical knowledge, and stamina. Do you have any of those attributes?

Well, I hope so. As I’m a writer and editor, writing and meticulous attention to detail is important, as is mental stamina and all kinds of knowledge, including historical sometimes.

5) Chris’ family owns Bargy Castle, a 15th century fortress in County Wexford, Ireland. Bargy Castle has been converted into a hotel. What’s the last hotel you stayed in?

A few years ago, Corey got us a mini vacay at the Hyatt Regency downtown in Waikiki, including a lomi lomi couples’ massage. We had a great day, a great lomi lomi session, and then a terrific dinner. And then we spent most of the evening in our hotel room SOOOOOO sick. It was… a time. Somehow, we still had fun.

6) Chris is a wine connoisseur who sold a collection of vintage reds for over $500,000. If you suddenly came into $500,000, what would you do with it?

Maybe use some to buy a house, the rest in savings.

7) In 1986, when this song was popular, singer/actress Lady Gaga was born in Manhattan. Have you been to New York City?

Not for years, but several times.

8) Also in 1986, NHL Hall of Famer Jacques Plante died. Are you a hockey fan?

Ah, Jacques Plante… the first NHL goalie to consistently wear a face mask in net during regulation games. It was also because of him that it was discovered that there was no consistency in net sizes, giving statistical advantages to goalies who played in front of smaller nets. He also played a single season for my team, the New York Rangers.

9) Random question – You just slid behind the wheel and are about to embark on a long road trip. Which of these famous Williams would you choose as your navigator: Willie Nelson, Bill Murray, or William, Prince of Wales?

Well, I can see advantages to all three. Willie Nelson would be fun, and he’d probably bring “supplies.” Bill Murray could keep me laughing. And I feel like the Prince, as a military vet, would be a good navigator. I would add William Shatner to the Williams as a potential travelling companion, too.
