Every now and then, I come across something that serves me the realest realness. Here are some of my latest greatest… (I love rhyming!)
“You can be a good person with a kind spirit and still tell people to go fuck themselves when needed.”
-my friend Dru
Being a good person with a kind spirit, which I try hard to embody, doesn’t mean you can’t stand up for yourself or for what’s right. Sometimes it’s because you’re a good person with a kind spirit that you have to say something.
“I kind of have this mentality that says, everything works out in the end. And if it’s not working out, it’s not the end.”
-Bob the Drag Queen

I love this one because it is on point. Having hope that things will work out in the end is a good thing. But it is so easy to, when things aren’t going well, to forget it’s not the end of the world. When one door closes, another one opens wide!
“Just because it could be worse doesn’t mean you don’t get to acknowledge how much it sucks, you know.”
-Leah Johnson, You Should See Me in a Crown
THIS! ALL OF THIS! Too many times we don’t allow ourselves to acknowledge our own suckage. We feel too guilty because we know there are others that have it worse. And that’s bullshit, my friends. It’s okay to feel like hell about something. Acknowledge it, accept it, work through it, and let that shit go.
“It’s okay to fall down. Get up, look sickening, and make them eat it!”
-RuPaul, Drag Race

I lived this once, seeing an ex years later. I slayed and it felt fantastic! There was something intensely gratifying in that moment.
“I realized it would have been dramatic, but I wanted to storm out and make him follow me and grovel for, like, an entire day.”
-Christina Lauren, Love and Other Words
I mean, hell, yeah. Has it ever happened? Nope, not once. Why? Well, mainly because I know he wouldn’t follow me and grovel. Which would make me feel worse with a side of stupid! But I still want to do it sometimes!!
“If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else! Can I get an amen?”
-RuPaul, on every single Drag Race episode ever
What else is there to say? Solid truth. Can I get an amen?
