A little humor in the face of adversity goes a long way. My dad, my brother Tripp and his girlfriend Ashley came over last night to go out to dinner with the kids and I for Donovan’s birthday. During the course of dinner, we got talking about his cancer. My father, in typical Vern fashion, has named his cancer. He has named it Seamus! A nod to his Irish roots, perhaps? I think it is a great way to accept what is going on and to find a way to live with it. I am a big believer in the idea the humor helps the healing process. So Seamus is a part of our lives now, but the key is to not let Seamus be the center of our lives. I haven’t gotten to that point yet, though, but I will. I am still in the “always on the verge of tears” stage, I guess.

Introducing Seamus,…

Oh dear …. it’s an interesting name. This post kind of reminded me of how men seem to name their manly parts. What’s up with that? *hugs* It’s okay to cry you know. I agree that humor does help.
::hugs:: I think I would be in the “on the verge of tears” stage for a very long time if my mom came out and said she had cancer. I am glad your dad has found a way to cope and bring a little humor to this. ::big hugs::
