like sands through the hourglass

So are the days of my life. It’s been a cyclic sort of existence lately. Lots of writing, lots of crocheting, lots of reading, lots of editing for clients. And being the time of year that it is—Stanley Cup season—lots of hockey. And mixed in with that, caring for a dog with a hurt paw and a mad crazy descent into mold-allergy madness for myself.

That last one resulted in a 2-plus days of feeling like I was halfway into the urn. For a bit of background, I have a rare and horrific allergy to mold, and when I’m exposed to more than a trace… the results suck. That’s where I was at, thanks to a house down the street having a massive mold issue, and the cleaning/emptying the house process letting it all out into the wild for me to breathe it in. So that’s been fun. But on the plus side, Loki—the shih tzu—is doing much better, although he hates his Cone of Shame that he has to wear at night. But since he can’t be trusted not to lick his paw, it is what it is.

And when I said lots of hockey, I meant it. My team isn’t in the playoffs—the New York Rangers—but that doesn’t stop me from watching. Gender roles be damned. I’m the sole female up in this house, and the sole regular—some might say obsessive—watcher of hockey. I blame it on the fact that I was brought up in northern New York, where hockey rules, and I was the daughter and granddaughter of hockey fans. My youngest brother even writes for an online magazine about hockey, so the bug bit us, too. On average, two games an afternoon, which is very convenient, one of the plus sides of living in the HST time zone. The NHL does a bracket sweepstakes every year, where you can make your predictions for winners, point spreads, etc. I do it every year. The second round has only just started, and it’s clear that this year is not my year. I think I’ve hit an all-time low with successful predictions. But alas, it’s all in fun, and I care not at all!
