Coming up with a topic was hard for me this week. These days, I exist in a constant state of emotional hell. I have vacillated between rage and anxiety with very few moments of peace for the last <insert the first line in the nightmare countdown in my “today” widget to the right>. It’s a state I don’t see changing for at least the next <insert the second line in the nightmare countdown in my “today” widget to the right>. But I also don’t want to dwell in that place because it’s mentally draining, and I’m fucking exhausted. So this is my attempt at lightheartedness.
- Take a hot bath with a yummy paper face mask, lovely natural bath products, and lotions and potions for when I’m done.
- Make some cơm tấm, which is a Vietnamese dish of rice and grilled marinated pork topped with a runny egg. I drizzle scallion oil and nước mắm (fermented fish sauce) on top, add some fresh scallions and some sliced cucumbers. I also make đồ chua, which is pickled carrot and daikon radish. Perfect comfort food!
- Play Vintage Story with my husband, or some World of Warcraft.
- Read a good book.
- Do yoga to non-yoga music like Metallica or The Hu, maybe some Delilah Bon or Rage Against the Machine.
- Watch my favorite YouTube channels Smosh Games, Smosh Pit, or Smosh Cast. Or my favorite streamers like Try Guys, Watcher, or Dropout.
- If it’s bedtime, watch my “soothing” YouTube channels like Royalty Soaps, vapor.03, Huyana Beauty, or Florian Gadsby.
- Get on Duolingo and do my language lessons.
- Ignore social media and cable TV.
- Go to the beach and do my best to unwind.
- Hug my husband.
- Hug my kids.
- Cuddle my dog.
We’ve been watching The West Wing as our escape, but I have a doom scrolling problem at the moment. Need to do better tomorrow. It is terrifying, isn’t it.
I’ve had to back away from social media and TV a lot, just to maintain some level of sanity!
A hot bath and cup of hot tea for me!
